Gifts in Kind
Gifts in Kind are those donations other than financial which could benefit a homeless person or a family in bettering their living situation. They include, but are not limited to, the following areas of need:
Food continues to be the most consistent need we have. Regardless of the living status of a homeless individual or family, the need for food is ever-present. Food drives are a great way to maximize your efforts in feeding the hungry.
For perishable food donations, please call 818.392.0020.
We have need for men’s, women’s and children’s clothing in all sizes. Please do not donate something that is so worn out that you would not wear it. Lightly warn clothing, including shoes, jackets, etc. is greatly appreciated.
We are in constant need of hygiene kits to hand out to the men, women and children we serve. Hygiene kits consist of soap, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste/toothbrush, razor, shaving cream and suntan lotion. Optional items are: Band-Aids, feminine hygiene products, and lip balm. Along with hygiene kits, we also give out free medicine to anyone who needs it! Medications needed on a consistent basis are: Robitussin DM, children’s Tylenol, ibuprofen, lice shampoo, allergy medication, and cough drops.
Donating the following gift cards is an excellent way to provide for the needs of homeless families while allowing some spending flexibility:* Grocery stores * Department stores (Walmart, Target, etc.) * Fast food (McDonald’s, etc.) * Gas stations
To help serve those in need, we rely on volunteers who are willing to put their specialized gifts to work for the homeless. Our many outreaches allow a variety of opportunities for service on a weekly basis.
Wheels of HOPE
Are you looking to Donate the old family car, RV or truck? Car donations are another way to support Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission and our moms, kids, men and women. Your used car can help us to end someone’s homelessness. It’s simple. We do all the work for you.
Three easy steps.
- Contact Steve Morse, Director of Thrift Store Operations at (818) 392-0020 to schedule a pick up.
- Gather the Title. We do the rest!
- Take a tax write-off.
Our new vehicle donation program helped us raise over $45,000 last fiscal quarter. Why park your vehicle when we can put life essential services in the driver’s seat! Contact us today or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
How much will I get for my donation?
The IRS allows you to claim a tax deduction of:
THE AMOUNT WE SELL YOUR VEHICLE FOR.
If we sell your vehicle for more than $500, your tax receipt will be for the purchase price of the vehicle. -or-
THE VALUE OF YOUR VEHICLE UP TO $500. It is up to you (the donor) to determine the fair market value. You can file for the value of the vehicle up to $500.
HERE’S HOW WE TRY TO GET YOU THE MAXIMUM TAX DEDUCTION:
- We have trained staff who evaluate each car to generate a larger profit- which means a larger tax dedication for you and more resources for the mission.
- Our staff will decide based on the location, condition, and market in your area to have the car be used by the charity, sold at auction, sold on the open market or recycled at a local yard.
We take care of the paperwork. It’s that easy!
