Thanks to you… Bill and Amy have been given a life-changing gift this holiday season.

“We’re so grateful for the Tiny Homes. They are making a BIG impact…”

Keys to a new life

Bill never imagined that at 82 years old he’d be sleeping on the cold, hard ground in a park. Sadly, five years before, he’d lost his job. Without a stable source of income, he soon became homeless. Night after night, he tried to stay warm in his sleeping bag.

Then Bill heard about our Tiny Homes at Alexandria Park, and his life began to change. Here he found interim housing with a safe bed to sleep in, access to daily meals and showers, and the support of our Hope of the Valley staff as he took steps to rebuild his life.

Recently, our housing navigators helped Bill secure permanent housing and he received the keys to his apartment! This holiday season, he is overwhelmed with gratitude to have a place of his own to call home.

“It’s just a godsend.”

Amy, her partner John, and their dog, Smalls, have been homeless for the past three years. So, she was intrigued when she saw construction begin on our Tiny Homes Village across from the Los Angeles park where they occasionally camped. A short while later, they were among the first to receive keys to their very own 64-square-foot temporary residence.

She says, “Right now, it’s home. It’s a safe place to come to every day. Some familiar, welcoming faces – something a lot of us haven’t had in a long time.

Being able to lock the door and have a place to sleep is huge. Just being able to fall asleep! That’s so hard to do when you’re on the streets.

We know that this is a transitional place… that there are other people out there that need help. This was a place where we could get our thoughts together and get help. It’s just a godsend. It’s really the best thing that has happened to us in a long, long time.”
